Programs Feed

This feed pulls content from the Programs Database, a single source of truth for program offerings and requirements. Update as needed and the correct content appears on all relevant Howard University sites using the feed and the Program Detail widget.

We recommend that every department's programs exist in the database so schools and departments can display consistent information.

Master Program Link

If you choose to display program information on your site without using the Program Detail widget, we still need to include a Program with a Master Program Link in the Programs Database, creating a link to where this content "lives" on your site (screenshot). NOTE: This is to be added on programs.howard.edu, in order for your program to link to the correct place throughout the Howard University ecosystem.

Prefilter Results

By choosing a prefilter term, you have the ability to narrow down programs to be displayed. For instance, you would want to define your use case, then narrow down results, rather than display all programs Howard has to offer. Some examples:

• Minors, in the College of Medicine.
• Graduate programs that relate to the subject of Biology.
• Majors, in the School of Business.
• Programs related to the profession of Architecture.

Available Filters:

• Degree Classification: Graduate, Undergraduate, Other
• School: Graduate School, COAS, College of Medicine, etc.
• Subject: Atmospheric Science, Biochemistry, Biology, etc. 
• Profession: Engineer, Accountant, etc. 
• Program Type: Major, Minor, etc. 

It is worth noting that these filters are additive in nature, and work to narrow down results, with each additional choice.

Expose Filters to Site Visitors

If you have a large result set, you may optionally show dropdown filters for your visitors so they can narrow down the results. If used in conjunction with prefiltering, you usually do not want to expose a dropdown for a category you are already prefiltering for. Some examples:

• Prefilter set to School of Education, exposed Program Type filter: Shows all programs for the School of Education, and users can filter to just majors or minors if desired.
• Prefilter set to Graduate, exposed School filter: Shows all graduate programs, and users can filter to specific schools if desired.

Available Filters:

• Degree Classification: Graduate, Undergraduate, Other
• School: Graduate School, COAS, College of Medicine, etc.
• Subject: Atmospheric Science, Biochemistry, Biology, etc. 
• Profession: Engineer, Accountant, etc.
